How Can I Use this in the Future

Both RSS and Blogger can be incredibly useful in my future career field of social work. RSS is a very easy way to learn about new programs or theories that are started in social work. I can continue to hear about other people’s experiences on how they are dealing with their clients. This will be able to allow me to better how I deal with my clients by finding new ways to connect with them. Social work also requires you to be able to stay on top of different resources and programs that can help your clients. RSS can help you search for these resources and you will easily be able to find out about new ones that pop up. Blogger could be used by me or my clients as I enter the workforce. I can blog about the resources I find on RSS and my clients would be able to get connected with them. Also some of my clients could possibly need to find a new outlet for how the release their emotions. Blogging is a safe and fun way when used correctly to express your emotions. If my client chose to make their blog public it would also be a great way for me to check up on them and make sure they are doing ok.

Connecting and Disconnecting

The RSS has more information about my major’s field of social work than I could ever read. This has a ton of benefits including being able to reinforce things I already know with specific examples from real world situations. For example in my classes about social work I have learned that you cannot make decisions for your clients. I was then able to read about how making decisions for them can really harm them and does not really allow them to grow. I also learned in class that it is very helpful to make lifegraps of your clients. Using RSS I was able to find templates of lifegraps I could use and step by step directions on how to make them. Anything I already know about my field I can easily search and multiple sources will pop up directly relating to the topic. This is really helpful in continuing to expand my education. However having so many sources and articles to read can sometimes be a bad thing. What I mean by this is that there are a lot of different theories and ideas about social work. So I could potentially go on and read two articles that say the complete opposite thing. This can really make me question what I have already learned and what I should believe. Is what I am learning wrong, or is the information on here wrong? Even though RSS makes connecting with your topic easy you still have to know how to use it correctly. You have to be careful when reading the information on here by knowing how to identify quality information. It can really disconnect you from what you have already learned.

New Information

The great thing about my RSS feed is not only does it have a great deal of information to discover, it is very valuable and interesting information. In the article by Hinds discussing networking I learned that you can improve your networking skills by doing things as simple as listening better. When you listen better you learn about the contact you are trying to contact with faster. The faster you know about them, and the more you know about them can impress them which could lead to a strong relationship. In the volleyball magazine I was reading I found out that the team my friend plays for, USC, is currently ranked second in the country. I do not know exactly what area of social work I want to go into. However I have read a few articles from my National Association of Social Workers subscription, and I really believe that I can help shape my decision by the stories and experiences in there. I was shocked to find out that the St. Louis Cardinals have 6 members on their opening day lineup that have never been on one before (that is the most in 20 years).

Information Gathering from RSS

After only creating an RSS feed a week ago I have already fallen in love with it because of all the great information it can connect you with. For example in Josh Hinds article about how to better market yourself in the business world I learned some fast and easy tips to help me improve in the business world. In Volleyball Magazine I can quickly check up on who is ranked first in the Men’s NCAA Volleyball League. I can pretty much get any sporting news, including baseball news from ESPN: MLB, that I desire. I can learn cool techniques about all sides one of my favorite hobbies, filmmaking, from Filmmaking Central. I can stay up to date with what is going on in the world of social work by going to my National Association of Social Workers subscription. There are subscriptions about anything you could ever imagine, and there is a lot of information to tap into in each subscription. It really amazes me about how versatile you can be with this. I have used it for entertainment already and I can see how I will be able to use it to find out information I need for school and information about my major. It is really nice and convenient how you can specify about what information you want to receive by subscribing only to places that interest you.
